Hydraulic Flow Control Valves

Hydraulic flow control valves set the speed of cylinders and hydraulic motors by limiting the oil flow to or from the actuator. The oil passes an adjustable restriction: a smaller opening means less flow and a slower movement, a larger opening means more flow and a faster one.

The main choice is whether the speed must be controlled in one direction or in both. Throttle valves restrict the flow equally in both directions. Throttle check valves restrict one direction and let the return flow pass freely through a check valve, so one stroke is controlled and the other runs at full speed. Needle valves have a fine tapered needle for precise adjustment and are also used to shut off small lines.

The second choice is the installation. These valves have threaded ports and sit directly in the pipe line. On an NG6 (D03) valve stack, the same function is added with sandwich flow control valves, without extra piping. For operation from the front of a control panel, panel mounting sets are available as accessories.

Simple throttle valves are not pressure compensated, so the speed changes somewhat when the load changes. Size the valve on flow and check the pressure rating and port thread.
